The Vineyards
At Viña Zorzal they have always made single vineyard-monovarietal wines because they love the way they express the uniqueness of their terroir. This wine is their first blend that was inspired by the stunning connection between Viura and Garnacha Blanca grapes. This is a blend, so what!!!
Navarra DO
Navarra is a wine region in northern Spain, known for its diverse and high-quality wines. It is situated in the Ebro River basin, south of the Pyrenees Mountains, and shares borders with France to the northeast. The region has a rich history of winemaking, with evidence of vine cultivation dating back to the Roman era.
Terroir & Innovation
The region’s diverse geography, which includes plains, valleys, and mountains, contributes to the variety of wines produced. Different microclimates and soil types create ideal conditions for growing various grape varieties.
Navarra has a balance of traditional winemaking practices and a willingness to experiment with modern techniques. This combination allows winemakers to create wines that reflect both the region’s heritage and contemporary trends.
Vintage
This was a very warm vintage. Despite being a dry vintage, the few rainy days were very well distributed and the vineyard did not suffer so much water stress. The grapes were harvested earlier than ever to maintain low ph and freshness.
Vinification
Grapes were harvested in the coolest hours of the evening, stripped from the stalks, and then cold-macerated, extracting the free-run juice after 12 hours of skin contact. The resulting grape must be then fermented using just indigenous yeasts. Viura fermented & aged for 12 months in 500 liter French oak used barrels. Garnacha fermented & aged for 12 months in a 700 liter nomblot concrete egg.
Wine
Fresh, floral and elegant, with purity and balance, and a spicy touch from the wood. It has a very tasty finish and even a salty twist, super fresh with lots of finesse. It has volume and freshness, with the vibrancy from an early harvest and the contained ripeness and alcohol. Only 3,600 bottles produced.
Ideal serving temperature 10ºC.
